Piecing Together

Tonight my mom and I laid out the squares for the quilt she is making me. Isn't it beautiful? This will be a really sentimental piece, especially being of my mom's creation. I will cherish the heck out of it. We shopped for the fabrics together and after searching and searching, found this cheery collection in McMinnville. The tomato/rosy red really pops against the antique tans and creams.

A Little Bird Told Me.

I almost feel sorry for my co-workers and boyfriend today as I blabbered on and on about my obsession with this Anthropologie hand-carved mobile. You can see why- its gorgeous! Sadly, it is sold out, but I found one similar.

Flock of Sparrows. That wasn't mean to be for me.

Driftwood swallows swoop and dive beneath curved branches. That I want want want want.

Soon, I will have a place to decorate to my little heart's desire and I am loving these bird influences.

My First Photography Print!

LOOK! It is my first photograph to be printed (and on such a large scale)!! This photograph of Willamette Valley Vineyards is hanging in the new Willamette Valley Vineyards Wine Center in McMinnville. It is massive, as in 6 ft. wide! Sorry this photo of the photo isn't great, I blame it on some shaky cam I had going on from all my excitement. Go check it out for yourself... pretty please. :)

One Perfect Autumn Day

A few Sundays ago we went out to Piluso Vineyards, a beautifully quaint setting, and this is what happened. This is also a tribute to my boyfriends favorite jeans that just ripped and are deemed unfixable after hours of me trying. :)

I am a little concerned over the picture quality. I think I need to stop using blogger to upload my photos.

Capture the Spirit Photography Contest

The Oregon Wine Board is hosting a photography contest called "Capture the Spirit of Oregon Wine Country" and Chris and I have both entered our work. Devastatingly Beautiful

I am in a daze looking at this Christian Schoeler painting. I have never seen his work before, but after further googling I found he is known for his contemporary fashion paintings.

I just read a whole interview of his here. He is a very intriguing artist (but, aren't they all?!). I love how he describes his artistic style:
Ecstasy and loss. Adolescence and Vulnerability. Beauty and decadence. Devastatingly beautiful, intimate watercolor or oil paintings that share as much with contemporary fashion photography as they do with pre-photography portraiture. A “style” and approach that is perhaps unfashionable relative to the contemporary art ’scene’, but arguably timelessly fashionable.

If I was a celebrity and my job of the day was to walk the red carpet at the Costume Institute Gala I would wear this:

And I would never be caught dead wearing this:

I also wanted to publicly defend Mary-Kate Olsen.  I have no idea why she is catching flak for this dress.  I love it- the color, the colliding fabrics, the layers!

Another tidbit- Isn't the point of wearing vintage to bring the amazing design into the present?  If so, WHY would you ever choose this?  Vintage Bob Mackie.  It looks like my Kirkland Signature garbage bags.

Drawing

I made a few drawings today in my quest to become a better drawer. Nothing turned out good and I normally wouldn't share anything this terrible, but my boyfriend did say the one I drew of him fused with Cat Stevens reminded him of a Tim Burton creation. That made me laugh.

I am going to try again tomorrow!

Olivia Clare Designs

I have a lovely cousin. Seriously, she is the best. But, another thing that makes her awesome is her jewelry collection. She makes one-of-a-kind rings, necklaces, and bracelets using beautiful semi-precious and hand-cut stones. Even better they are affordable. What am I doing? I don't even need to promote her work, the pictures will do justice.

And just in case you don't live in the Portland area she just opened her own Etsy shop and it has been quite successful! She has 105 items up already and I am pretty sure some of my tax refund is going to some new pieces. :)

Amazing Photographer!

Professional photographers are so... umm... cool? I find them to the among the most interesting people on the planet. Their job is to find beauty in the world (or mask the ugly). Definitely a challenging job, yet so inspiring.

My grandpa started a photo finishing lab located in Portland, OR back in the 60s. He originally worked for Kodak, but took the leap into owning his own business called K & K Color Lab (named after his then 2 daughters- which became 5). K & K or "The Lab" as the family calls it became very successful and a pride for the family. Three of my aunts and one of my uncles continue to work there. As the world of photography has transitioned to digital, the demand for photo finishing has decreased, but K & K will always mean a lot to me. I loved visiting and seeing all the film develop, especially as a young girl seeing all the fairytale weddings. This initial joy has led to my current admiration for great photographers. With the rise of photo blogs, I have been spoiled with the ability to rummage through collections of amazing pictures.

I want to share is Kristy of Wreckless Photography. Her talent caught my attention the moment I saw these pictures. Wow. I fell in love. I only wish she had more photos on her already extensive website, because I can look at them for hours. I recommend you check out everything. Such an inspiration and I can tell through her pictures she really loves her job.
